1976 Orange Bowl National Championship Game (SKU: 73SWM) 1976 Orange Bowl National Championship GameWhen UCLA upset the top ranked Ohio State Buckeyes in the Rose Bowl, the stage was set for Oklahoma to control it's own destiny. A win against a tough Michigan team in the 1976 Orange Bowl would mean a National Championship for the Sooners. Oklahoma found themselves in a defensive battle with the Big Ten runner up and fourth-ranked Wolverines. Three hard-fought quarters netted Oklahoma a slim 7 0 advantage. But on the first play of the fourth quarter, Sooners quarterback Steve Davis ran 10 yards to up the lead to 14 0. The Michigan defense then recovered an Oklahoma fumble on the Sooner 2 and Gordon Bell took it in to make it 14 6. That was the last time the Wolverines would threaten as the Sooner defense took over. With Oklahoma's Lee Roy and Dewey Selmon leading the defense with 10 and 13 tackles respectively, Michigan never made it past midfield again and was held to just 202 yards of offense for the game.

1979 Cotton Bowl Nd Vs. Houston (SKU: 44SWM) 1979 Cotton Bowl Nd Vs. HoustonAffectionately dubbed the chicken soup game, the 1979 Cotton Bowl was played in freakishly low temperatures that covered Dallas in ice, and features collegiate Joe Montana suffering from the flue and hypothermia. Though he brings Notre Dame a 12-0 lead in the first quarter, Montana sits out for a while to nurse a bowl of chicken soup, and muster the strength to re-enter the game in the third quarter. The pressure is on, as the Houston Cougars have a remarkable lead at 34-12. The Cougars are so sure of victory they rest on their laurels and even send alternates to finish up the game. Big mistake. The next few incredible plays culminate in breathtaking triumph and lasts even to the very last second on the clock.

By the finish, White had accrued 99 yards and a controversial touchdown. In the second quarter, USC had the ball on the Wolverines' three-yard line. White plunged into the end zone for a touchdown. Or did he? Replays would later show he didn't have the ball, which had ended up in the hands of a Michigan defender. White and Michigan quarterback Rick Leach shared player of the game honors, as Leach was almost able to lead the Big Blue back with a 44 yard touchdown strike to Roosevelt Smith in the third quarter.
